Covid for Kids, an educational project honoured by the ULB

Covid for Kids is a science popularisation platform created by young paediatricians from the ULB at the Children's University Hospital (HUDERF), part of the Brussels University Hub together with the Jules Bordet Institute and the Erasmus Hospital. In 2022 the ULB honoured this educational project with its Scientific Dissemination Award.

Covid for kids

Covid for Kids explains Covid-19 in a fun and playful way.

In response to the fears of young patients who may also wonder about the dangers of Covid, a group of 20 young paediatricians from the ULB and paediatric infectiologists from the HUDERF have developed an information platform designed for children between the ages of 6 and 12 or more. This project aims to explain in a way that is simple and amusing how the Coronavirus functions and how the body reacts when faced with this infection. A series of video clips explain in a fun and lively way what a virus is, how it is transmitted and the various types of Coronavirus.

More than an information platform, Covid for Kinds is an educational tool

We have genuine teamwork to thank for this project. To be sure to provide the best response to the expectations of the target public, the project was designed with the help of a dozen motivated children. Covid for Kids is an information platform but also an educational one with explanatory videos, a glossary of scientific terms and a "question and answer" section.   "Heath education is an important notion in paediatrics. By making current scientific knowledge accessible, we hope to help equip adults and stimulate curiosity about science among children," explain the project instigators.
