A new space for ethical reflection in healthcare

Healthcare raises questions every day that go beyond purely medical or technical considerations. How should difficult decisions be approached? How can the values and expectations of patients, their families and healthcare professionals be reconciled? And how can we collectively reflect on the most complex situations encountered in clinical practice?

To foster this reflection, the Brussels University Hospital (H.U.B.) is launching the Clinical Ethics Centre, a new initiative developed as part of the Health Humanities programme. The Centre's first annual seminar series will begin in September 2026.

A meeting place for clinical practice, research and education

The Clinical Ethics Centre aims to foster a culture of ethical reflection across the H.U.B. It provides a forum where healthcare professionals, researchers, students and academic partners can exchange ideas on the major ethical challenges encountered in clinical practice.

Without focusing on individual clinical cases, the Centre explores the ethical questions that arise in everyday hospital practice. By encouraging dialogue, education and the sharing of knowledge, it seeks to support ethical reflection across healthcare.

An annual seminar series

The Centre will organise an annual seminar series, held on the second Friday of each month, from 12.30 to 1.30 p.m., online via Microsoft Teams.

Each seminar will explore a current topic in clinical ethics, featuring contributions from experts from both the healthcare and academic sectors, followed by an opportunity for discussion with participants. The seminars will be recorded and progressively made available online.
