Expertises
A number of innovative techniques have been developed to better characterise a cancer.
Examples :
- The tumour’s Genomic Grade is based on an analysis of a tumour’s gene expression. This consists of detecting the “genetic signatures” as a basis for deciding on the type and extent of the treatment as well as the tumour prognosis. Our laboratory is proficient in carrying out and interpreting tests of this kind that were in fact developed in the Institute’s own research laboratories.
- Other techniques, such as extemporaneous immunochemical staining, also assist surgeons during surgery. It is possible, for example, to carry out immediate immunochemical analyses when excising the first lymph nodes close to a breast tumour. The results then obtained make it possible to check whether or not the nodes contain cancerous cells and thus to limit their removal to those regions where it is necessary.
