Immunohistochemistry
Immunochemistry is a method carried out on an everyday basis that enables proteins to be detected with the aid of antibodies within the cells of a tissue section fixed with formalin and coated in paraffin. A detection system, consisting of an enzyme and its substrata, makes it possible to visualise the protein-antibody association through the production of a chromogen.
Immunohistochemical examinations are not only used to make a diagnosis but can also serve to provide prognostic and treatment information for certain pathologies.
The laboratory carries out immunohistochemical tests using automated Benchmark ULTRA (Ventana, Roche) and OMNIS (Dako, Agilent) systems.
