When stories enrich care: launch of the Belgian Narrative Medicine Forum
Brussels University Hospital (H.U.B) and the Health Hub of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) are launching the Belgian Forum for Narrative Medicine, a new platform for meeting, reflection and training dedicated to the human dimensions of healthcare.
A first series of lectures for 2026–27
Behind every healthcare journey lie a story, an experience and a personal perspective. Narrative medicine focuses specifically on this dimension of care: it draws on the accounts of patients, their loved ones and healthcare professionals to enrich listening, foster dialogue and gain a better understanding of the lived experience of illness. It does not replace medical expertise, but complements it by paying particular attention to the care relationship.
It is with this perspective in mind that H.U.B. and the ULB Health Pole are creating the Belgian Forum for Narrative Medicine. Rooted in paediatrics but open more broadly to different healthcare practices, the Forum will bring together healthcare professionals, researchers, students, patient partners and experts in the humanities to address the human and narrative dimensions of care.
A first event on 25 September
To inaugurate its lecture series, the Forum will welcome Isabelle Galichon, senior lecturer at the University of Bordeaux and a specialist in narrative medicine.
