This Saturday 23 March the H.U.B Dietetics Department held its “Annual Conference on Therapeutic Dietetics and Nutritional Support.”

Our experts from the Jules Bordet Institute, the Erasmus Hospital and the Children’s Hospital were able to present the latest developments in nutritional care for paediatric patients suffering from cancer or other diseases.

The subjects discussed:

  • Our understanding of the nutritional needs of patients has progressed. A doctor and dietician presented the latest nutritional recommendations for patients in acute and post-acute care.
  • Since December 2023, the INAMI has developed a brand new care pathway in caring for overweight and obese children and adolescents

We looked at the 3 lines of treatment for overweight young people in Belgium and in particular care at the Multidisciplinary Paediatric Centre for Obesity and more practically at what we have put into place at the HUDERF (H.U.B).

  • ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) is a multidisciplinary perioperative care pathway whose aim is to permit more rapid recovery for patients who have undergone major surgery.   We presented the implementation of this care protocol for patients who have had a radical cystectomy at the H.U.B.”
  • “What’s new in 2024?” that changes our practice for the nutritional care of patients in neonatology, haematology and also patients with cystic fibrosis.
