A medical first in interventional cardiology
It was with great pride that we were able to witness a wonderful first at the H.U.B last week.

Indeed, we are delighted to announce a major medical first in our interventional cardiology suite, partly financed by the Fonds Erasme pour la recherche médicale.
Last Friday, a patient suffering from severe haemodynamic instability after major surgery was saved thanks to the coordinated and rapid intervention of the interventional cardiology (Dr El Mourad, Dr Flores, Dr Dendievel), intensive care (Dr L. Nobile) and cardiac surgery (Dr C. Stefanidis) teams.
Our patient had a clot in her pulmonary arteries removed percutaneously, drastically improving her situation and taking her out of life-threatening instability.
Thanks to the combined intervention of the teams at the H.U.B, who organised the emergency fitting of FlowTriever thrombectomy equipment to avoid major surgery, the patient was stabilised and saved.
Under development and not reimbursed until now, this procedure is now recognised and reimbursed by the Inami under special conditions. With this patient, the H.U.B is moving in this direction, contributing to the development of new techniques and enabling us to offer innovative and excellent care for the well-being of our patients.
Thank you all for this flexibility, at the interface of many H.U.B. departments!
